Home-based Business
Home based businesses have been around since the very beginnings of civilised society, and are becoming more popular in developed nations as we move away from industrial production based economies. Throughout Asia you will find landscapes and communities with hundreds of "shop-houses"; this is a way of life for a huge number of people in our global society. With the advent of the web the developed world is shifting back to working from home, and the implications for business, management, society and our culture are starting to be realised.
A home-based business is often seen as a soft option for those seeking independence and wishing to express their entrepreneurial spirit, because they are low overhead and, in many respects, low risk. A home based business is not without risk; it is just that the risks are different and need to be managed in a different way. Some HBBs have achieved global renown in their specialised market niche; many others struggle to realise the entrepreneur's dream and provide a business return to reward the risks of self employment. In the centre are those businesses that provide an alternative source of employment and little more.
Bizlearn.biz has much to contribute within our charter of "really useful business tools and techniques", because most of our contributors have experience of the HBB scene. We have worked out our own ways of dealing with the challenges and are happy to make them available to others. We will not attempt to provide general support for the HBB community as this role is well served by our alliance partner, VEConnection.com and we will contribute regularly to the VEC Business Forum. We recommend that you keep an eye on this through bizlearn.biz, and participate in sessions that attract your interest.
Initially we will contribute whitepapers, some of which havealready been published by homebizbuzz.co.nz over recent years. We will extend this range and the scope of our dicussions online through tutorials on relevant topics. If you have specific questions you would like us to cover please email

Setting up a home office on the cheap
Don't screw up your business prospects by spending more than is essential on your home office. A flash office feeds your ego, but only customers feed your family. Having made all the mistakes, I am well qualified to suggest what you need in the minimal office if you want to be in a real business.
